Wild Ride Jennifer Crusie Bob Mayer Angela Dawe Books

Glad I found this. Supernatural plots rarely grab me, but it hooked me. Inventive plot and their grounding and balancing understanding of real humanity makes you happy to believe the unbelievable, as great adventures and fantasy stories do. Great twists and funny dialog. I thought Agnes and the Hit man would be tough to top (and in fact their other novel Don't Look Down did not measure up like this one did.) I'm super impressed by the diversity of this writing team's creations. Completely unique settings, plots, characters in each one. You can see hear and feel the characters. No repeating the same old tricks here. I love over the top humor so this one was hard to put down. Couldn't wait to read more, yet I didn't want it to end. The very last plot twist made my day.

Wild Ride Jennifer Crusie Bob Mayer Angela Dawe Books Reviews

Every writer has good books & bad books. A bad Jennifer Crusie is still better than a good "some other authors' books", but still, it's not her best, right? I love Welcome to Temptation & What a Lady Wants, Bet Me, etc. Agnes is my all time favorite (a close tie to Temptation). This book grew on me - I've read it 3 times now & the only thing I would comment on, is I wish it was longer/more detailed. Great characterization - but too short. And it would be good to have a sequel. You have to think about what could be, in addition to what she wrote, to really appreciate it.
Okay, well, it is not your usual Jennifer Crusie. We don't have the male love interest's POV. We have another male who is a hero/brother figure. He's blatantly male. His love interest is more mellow and committment just seems to happen with them.

This is not formulaic. It's more girl meets boy, girl gets involved with boy, and then the love story takes off in a different direction.

If you want one on one with head hopping between the two love interests Hero/heroine, this won't be your book. But it's a great book.

Remember, this is collaboration between a male author and a female author. You're going to get a male's view of love, not what us females wish the male's view was.
I've read all of Crusie's books and loved many of them. (I've certainly liked them all!) I have been really enjoying her books with Bob Mayer and Wild Ride is no exception.

What could be more fun than an amusement park crafted to contain demons, the people who are tasked with guarding them and a couple of folks dragged into the circle of guardians? Add in a couple of bosses who seemingly represent everything I've ever hated about my bosses in the past (with a bit of extra actual evil thrown in) and an introverted heroine and I'm a happy little reader. I like the detailed background for the demons, too.

Plenty of snark, romance and action to go around. Definitely a fun read!
I have loved most of the books by Jennifer Crusie especially the books she co-wrote with Bob Mayer ( Agnes and the Hitman--so good!) so I was anxiously awaiting the new one. The first time I read it, I was confused by the setting and disappointed by the paranormal demon stuff. I wasn't willing to give up on a Crusie book, though, so I reread the book. The second time through I was able to understand the setting much better and concentrate on the characters and dialogue. I have come to the conclusion that although the Crusie/Mayer wit is there, it is not at the same level as previous books. I suppose if one were an amusement park enthusiast, the story would be more appealing, but as I am not, that aspect of the story was more distracting than exciting. In short, worth reading, but not their best. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars.
Reading the first chapter, I honestly thought I'd found the first Crusie book too ridiculous to read. Demons? In an amusement park at Halloween? I'm happy to say that I stuck with it and was I ever wrong! So much fun! Better with every crazy twist.
This was very different from Crusie's usual contemporary novels -- a foray into the realm of the paranormal. At first I, too, was disappointed that the two main characters were not each other's love interest but the reason eventually becomes understood and the ending explains all. I love the collaboration of these two authors. The book had me intrigued and LOL from the beginning -- the moment the Fun-Fun statue speaks to Mab and she screams. Ethan is also a hoot. Even though some things were obvious (things that can't be mentioned without spoilers), I kept wondering, page-after-page what would happen next and how this would possibly end. I hated the book to end. If you can have an open mind and are ready for an unusual trip, BUY THIS BOOK.

The only complaint I have is with the publisher, St. Martens Press. The print was exceptionally small and very light for the most part, making reading very, very difficult. If they're trying to economize, that's not the way to do it. If it hadn't been a Jen. Crusie novel, I'd have discarded it. But she's worth the extra effort. But these old eyes needed a magnifying glass as well as reading glasses.
This is a book that doesn't bear description, because it sounds absurd, but Crusie is so good at character development and her plot is suck a roller coaster of danger, love, and MAGIC, that you will have a hard time putting it down. One chapter leads into another and another, till the book is done and you wish it had lasted longer. I don't usually read romances or anything involving magic, but I loved it. My 30+ yr. old daughter loved it, too!
Glad I found this. Supernatural plots rarely grab me, but it hooked me. Inventive plot and their grounding and balancing understanding of real humanity makes you happy to believe the unbelievable, as great adventures and fantasy stories do. Great twists and funny dialog.
