THE STORY: Isobel Lambert is the head of the Committee, a group based in Britain which attempts to thwart terrorist groups. Isobel is known as a sleek, cold, dangerous professional. She is reaching the limit of her tolerance of this life, however, and the young, vulnerable girl she was keeps showing through. Seventeen years ago, that young girl killed the man she spent two weeks in France with. Unknown to her, he survived and became the terrorist Serafin who makes a deal with her bosses at the Comnmittee. She has to save him and thus discovers that he is man she loved and hated and thought she had killed.

OPINION: I am a big fan of Stuart's anti-heroes who are always on the edge of being the villain. Here, Isobel and Killian are both anti-heroes of a sort. They are a danger to one another even as they rely upon one another to reach safety. Both are dark characters who have killed and live in a shadowy world. The moral line of what is right and wrong is complicated and blurry here. I especially liked the interweaving of the past and present stories such that secrets are revealed in the past which illuminate the present. Isobel and Killian are an interesting combination. The constant danger and lack of truth between them makes their story fascinating and complex. I also especially like the softening of Isobel without making her weak. She remains a professional and yet readers are allowed to see her deep caring for her comrades and eventually also for Killian. As a fan of the Ice series, I also really liked seeing past characters (I won't spoil who) and this time we get an update on their lives which was satisfying.

FINAL DECISION: The story of two people who both lead deadly lives, I loved how the book is romantic and yet not at all sentimental. I loved the interactions between Isobel and Killian.

CONNECTED BOOKS: ICE STORM is the fourth book in the Ice series. It can be read as a standalone although I think because it deals with and includes characters from the entire series, it will be better appreciated when read after the other books of the series.

I enjoyed every minute. The characters did crazy and wild things to my brain with thoughts like "I love you but I'm going to kill you." I loved the relationship between Reno and Mahmoud. What a cool surprise. The entire book was well done. I had a great feeling at the end. Sexual language moderate. Number of sex scenes five. Setting current day Middle East and England. Genre romantic suspense thriller.
Anne Stuart has taken us to the Place she finds so easily, the great reading place. I adore her soggy heros, men who have given up all to do what they feel is right as well as profitable. She takes characters who are so dark they can't stand the light and brings them out with wonderful caring female characters. This time however, we have two people who have fought the good fight, and even if one deserves to die, the heart is still a lonely hunter.

Isobel Lambert is the head of the Committee, an organization devoted to keeping our world from destroying itself. She has learned to be hard and capable. No one knows her true name or anything about her. Except she gets the job done.

Serafin is a wanted terrorist who wants the Committee to save him and he will give them all the inside information he has. But seventeen yrs ago he called himself Killian and Isobel thought she killed him then, imagine her astonishment to find him alive and wanting help from her organization.

Both have secrets and enemies but the hardest thing for Isobel is that he was the first and only man she has ever loved. She only knew him for two weeks, seventeen yrs ago, but that changed the direction of her life. She knew she shot him and thought he was dead. Now both find the attraction has not died and each must guard against the other. Because now it seems someone in Isobel's organization or one of the people Killian has double-crossed is out to kill them both.

The action is non stop, the romance is hot, and the book is read at one time. I could not put it down. Loved it.
Why the wait? I guess I had trouble accepting that Isobel Lambert wasn't an old woman. Then I bought Fire and Ice and knew I had to tackle this one before I could fully enjoy Reno's story. But this book was a terrific read. Isobel and Killian are interesting characters, although I never fully bought into Isobel's transition from soft-hearted innocent to icy operative. Stuart gives us reasons, but I just didn't find the complete sea-change convincing. But nonetheless, a good book. I especially enjoyed reading about operatives from previous books Peter, worrying about Genny's desire for a baby. Bastien, laboring over burled walnut paneling much to Chloe's amusement. The return of Reno!
None of these books are as wonderful and riveting and compelling as Black Ice, but this is a worthy successor. Not as good as Blue Ice, but much beter than Peter's story.
I only recently discovered Anne Stuart and her "Ice" series. I'd never read Stuart before this. I inhaled the entire ice series, out of order, which I think added to the fun. This one, Ice Storm, was the last one that I read. I loved all of the books in this series, but I especially liked this one because it revealed the truth about the shadowy Isobel (I knew there was more to her than previously let on), I loved Killian's dedication to little Mahmoud, and I most especially LOVED the fact that Bastien and Peter (and their families) are so involved in this book! I can never get enough of Bastien and Peter!! I really enjoy it when multiple characters from a series come together. What a treat!! And of course Reno makes a great showing here, too. Gotta love that boy!! I really really really hope Stuart keeps going with the Ice series. It's an open-ended series that never has to end! I hope it doesn't end, because it's unique and thrilling. I couldn't put any of these books down. Love those anti-heroes!!
